Criminal behavior

There have been many adoption studies that have been done which have evaluated the links among adopted children and criminal behavior to determine whether genetics can be complete to cause a person’s criminal behavior. The study of adoption has examined the biological parent and the adopted parent to compare the factors of environment that can affect criminal behavior. Many studies that were done in the beginning were done on the children that were adopted from incarcerated women, most of the proof showed that many of the children were born from incarcerated women, and that they had a much higher rates of criminal sentences as adults than for the ones that were not born from incarcerated women.

There was another study that was done on children that were born from biological fathers. Many of them had a history of committing many crimes such as property crimes. The study was done in Demark and they came to the conclusion that many adopted children whose birth father had a history of committing crimes such as property crimes frequently committed the same kind of crimes. Many of them who committed these crimes usually didn’t commit the violent crimes.

(Jones, C. M. 2005). Testosterone Studies Testosterone studies have also been shown to evaluate in the role that testosterone levels persuading hostile and criminal behavior in men. There is an increased rate of male criminal delinquents versus females. Scientists have directed studies on how male hormones affect criminal behavior. The scientists James Dabb Jr. found that men and women that have increase testosterone levels were more susceptible to compel in violent and sexual crimes. (Crime Time 2007).

Men with increased levels of testosterone are often found to have more anger that can lead to violent behavior, substance abuse, increased levels of sexual activity, and difficulties with authority such as teachers, parents, and employment supervisors. After showing the study of male inmates the results determined that inmates convicted of sexual or violent crimes had increased levels of testosterone versus those male inmates that were convicted of property and drug crimes. (Crime Time 2007). The Strength/Weakness of Evidence

There are so many weaknesses in the issues of whether genetics are associated with criminal behavior. The most noticeable weakness in genetics is the environment for which a child is raised up, which can have a major effect on the chances of criminal behavior. When a child is born with a mental illness, in some cases it causes criminal behavior, in many cases a child receives care and medical treatment they need to prevent there chance and in most cases that child is taught not take part in criminal activity (Jones, C. M. 2005).

In most cases criminals are upraised in a good atmosphere and they don’t have a genetic background of criminal behavior and most of they still fall victim to a life of crime. As an end result criminal behavior has not been able to be fully connected to genetics. There has been an vast amount of research done in order to find a connection among people that have a make-up of XYY DNA versus a person who has typical XY DNA. Many cases have been shown that there is a much greater chance of people with a XYY gene participating in criminal behavior verses people who have a typical XY DNA. (GOSAVI, S. R. , GAJBE, U. L. , MESHRAM, S. W. , CHIMURKAR, V. K. 2009).

In my opinion, some of the consequences that would occur in the field of criminal justice if the existence of the criminal gene is proven to be true is increased rates of criminals claiming the gene made me do it. The result builds a much more difficult and drawn-out investigation and court procedure. (Cohen, Patricia. 2011). The next consequence is deposit mobilization of commercial banks that have already been confined for the crimes they have committed and are receiving punitive sentences for violent crimes will start requesting a trial to appeal that the genetics was the main factor in committing the crime.

This could create a mass amount of new trials for violent criminals and slow down court procedures of delinquents’ currently awaiting their sentencing. I have confidence in that if the criminal gene is confirmed to be true it will be more work for us in the field of criminal justice because every violent criminal is going to attempt to claim that the cause was genetics of the criminal behavior, causing for deeper investigations and costing the state more to convict the violent criminals in the future.
